Ever have something happen that made you feel this was it, your time on Earth was up? I did late last night.
I was coming home from Virginia Beach when it happened. I was exiting Brambleton and getting on the exit ramp to enter the Midtown tunnel to Portsmouth. Out of nowhere a foreign make suv was behind me laying on the horn and headlights turned on high beams. The exit ramp is a circle and you can’t do more than 25 to 30 MPH safely.
The person was being a real jerk! So I stayed at the speed limit of 35. I usually go faster in the tunnel but was really annoyed by this person’s actions.
The driver sped up and got too close for comfort. I could no longer see headlights in my rearview mirror. I tapped my brake hard enough to allow the lights to come on thinking this would make the person back off. Wrong! It had the opposite effect.
He or she slowed then gunned their vehicle right for the back of my car. This is a two lane tunnel and I had oncoming traffic. I grabbed the wheel and braced for what I thought was going to be an impact. The car got as close to my rear as you can without hitting me. They did this several times.
Then this idiot gunned and went around me with cars coming the opposite direction.
Once they got around you’d think they would have pulled away as fast as you can but they stayed at least 5 car lengths in front of me.
I was able to get the license plate number and called 911. Gave them the information and also suggested they check the tunnel cameras. I lost the fool shortly thereafter. I told dispatcher I would press charges.
I don’t know what this persons problem was. Was this road rage? Was it a stolen vehicle? I did nothing to anyone in highway. I didn’t cut anyone off in traffic before this happened.
I’m just glad the worst did not happen. I think I will just stay home tomorrow and stay off the highway.
Made me realize how quickly my life could have ended last night.
Thank God it didn’t.
