So far things have gone pretty good today. I have been very surprised that my mom is not feeling any pain from the cornea transplant. I am assuming the drugs that were used to put the eye to sleep might still be working.
For the next 48 to 36 hours is she has to stay flat on her back with her face pointed straight up. That hasn’t been an issue this afternoon or evening. She laid on the couch and that helped. However, now in bed that could pose a problem.
My mother has a neck pillow that I thought would take care of the worry of her head turning during the night. That wasn’t going to work. It pushed her neck up too much. I checked on her a few minutes ago and thought her head a tilted a little. So I made the suggestion to her that the nurse told me about. I took a large bath towel and made that into a U shape to fit around her head. So far that looks like it may do the trick tonight.
THe reason she can’t turn her head is they put a small bubble of air under the cornea after the operation. It has to slowly disolve and it helps keep the cornea in place as her eye starts to accept it.
We have a follow up appointment with the eye specialist in the morning at 11:45. Hopefully, everything will look good and we will get more instructions from him on what she needs to be doing.
Time for bed. I’m beat.
