Interesting purchase

I was in Best Buy Saturday evening when I saw a deal that was too good to pass up. Philips made a few clock / radios that used Android phones instead of iPhones.

I noticed this unit several months ago but at $90 I felt it was too much. However, mark it on clearance for $35 I got interested.

This unit uses Bluetooth to connect to the speakers. It also uses Bluetooth to do firmware updates on the unit. Add a micro-USB connection for charging and you’re all set after downloading the dock app for control.

What’s also nice is the unit uses your phone to set the time. The display is the only clock display that I have found doesn’t disturb my sleep from being too bright.

My only complaint so far is the tune in software built into the app. It wouldn’t connect to any local stream but a station in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I’d be more upset about that if I’d shelled out $90. For $35 I will keep it and work on it.
