Muslim Community help foil Canadian terror plot

It’s good to see the Muslim community helping stop the madness.  Maybe the Muslim community in the United States will do this as well?

Muslims helped foil alleged Canada train bomb plot

In other news surviving Boston Bomber says he and brother acted alone with no help from outside the county.  If this is true why did Russia contact our government and ask them to look into the older brother?

The end of the Iraq War.

Today marks the end of the Iraq War. Not sure how to feel or think about it. I was only 4 or 5 when the Vietnam war ended. So for all practical purposes this is my first “war” that ended.

I hope the Iraq government can stand on its own. I hope Iran isn’t able to topple them.

I guess time will tell.

Life In A Day

On July 24, 2010, thousands of people around the world uploaded videos of their day to YouTube to take part in Life In A Day, a historic cinematic experiment to create a documentary film about a single day on Earth.

Now, after releasing in theaters across the globe, the film has returned to where it all began.  Enjoy!

The world is now a smaller place!

I was sitting watching TV Friday evening when my phone beeped.  It was my niece, Jessica, who is living in Beijing, China for a year teaching English.  Having heard how repressive the Chinese government is with their citizens accessing internet content I’m happy that she’s able to stay in touch via Skype and Facebook.

She sent me some pictures via email this evening and I wanted to share a couple with you.  It would be nice if Skype would update where you could send attachments to each other while in chat but…  I shot a picture of a local McDonald’s sign and she told me she was glad I sent that pic and it made her miss home.

I did learn one thing this evening.  I thought they were 13 hours ahead of where we are.  So when she told me the time was 12 hours different I was scratching my head on that one.  I thought maybe they had stopped daylight savings time and when we switch next weekend it would be 13 hours again. Nope, she told me they only have one time zone in China.  Thinking she was pulling my leg I checked Google.  She’s right.  China would have 5 time zones if they did like everyone else but they only have 1 time zone they go by.  Learned something new this evening.

The Great Wall

I can’t lie.  I wish I could say I was the one that took this photo but…  Must have been exciting to visit the Great Wall of China!

View from the Great Wall

This is a view from the wall itself. I’d hate to have to climb those mountains.

Click on any of these pictures for a larger view.  It must be interesting to visit other cultures and experience things first hand and not from video or news reports.  Can’t wait to hear more of what’s she is finding there.
